How To Perform Lincoln Engine Oil Change

How often should you change your engine oil? That depends on your vehicle type, how many miles it has, and how much wear and tear it goes through. But the general rule is to change your oil every three months or 3,000 miles. Changing the oil in your car can help prevent severe engine damage by ensuring no leaks in the system or clogged filters are causing problems. If you are unsure if your vehicle needs an oil change, check the owner’s manual for more information. This article will discuss performing an essential engine oil change on a typical car.

Warm Up your Car

Before you begin your car oil change, bring the vehicle to operating temperature. This is important because it gives the engine time to warm up and loosen debris in the valvetrain, allowing a better chance of catching any metal shavings before reaching your oil filter. You can drive around the block or just idle in place while you do other tasks like prep and clean up after yourself. It will take anywhere between 5-10 minutes, depending on how cold it is outside, how long ago you last drove it, how many miles are on your odometer, and what kind of climate control system your vehicle uses (if any).

Jack Up the Car

Once the engine oil is drained, you need to jack up the car. The car should be on a level surface and park with the parking brake on. Then place jack stands under each side of the car and use them to support both ends of your vehicle before jacking up your vehicle!

Once this is done correctly, proceed by placing another jack stand underneath the front suspension assembly or differential mount area on most vehicles (this location may vary depending on what type of vehicle you have). Please consult a service manual (link below) before proceeding with further steps if you are still determining where this is located on your specific model. With this additional support provided by a second jack stand positioned correctly beneath your main lifting point (for example, lower ball joint), now carefully loosen all lug nuts while making sure not to remove them entirely since they'll still be needed when removing tires later on during initial stages - just loosen enough, so they're loose enough not cause any jams during removal process later down the line when changing tires off thoroughly after removing wheels completely off vehicle firstly; we'll talk more about how exactly how much torque should apply here later though.

Drain the Oil

The next step is to drain the oil. The oil pan, which holds the remaining engine oil and gearbox fluid, is usually located under the car but can vary depending on your vehicle model. It is often covered by a metal plate held in place by some bolts. Remove this cover and allow any remaining fluid to drain into an empty container (preferably marked “oil”).

Replace the Oil Filter Cartridge

The oil filter cartridge is usually under your car, so you will need to remove it to add new oil. You can use a wrench or socket to replace the old cartridge with a new one. Be careful not to over-tighten it, as this can damage your engine’s components or just make it difficult for you when you go back next time because they’re stuck together!

Refill with New Oil

Once the filter is removed and disposed of, you can refill your engine with fresh oil. Check the level before you start supplying, as it may need some time to settle down after a change. Once you've filled up, replace the oil cap and lower your car on its wheels.

Key Information

Engine oil is one of the most critical parts of your car. It's used to lubricate all moving parts, which means that when it gets dirty and old, it will cause excessive wear on your engine and other components. That's why it's essential to change your oil regularly (every 3-5k miles). You should also ensure that your engine stays clean by regularly changing or flushing out coolant (every 20k miles).
