How To Set The Right Lincoln Tire Pressure

Setting tire pressure is one of the most overlooked aspects of car tire maintenance. When tires are underinflated, the vehicle handles poorly, fuel economy is inefficient, and the tires wear more quickly. When tires are overinflated, they can lose traction, brake poorly, and sometimes even blow out.

Lincoln vehicles are equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems. The system tracks individual tire pressures. Maintaining the correct tire pressure during the changing seasons will keep your Lincoln safe and efficient. Learn how to set the right Lincoln vehicle tire pressure in this article.

Check the Tire Pressure

To get an accurate reading of your tire pressure, the vehicle should be parked in the shade for one hour before the pressure is measured. When the ambient temperature is lowest in the morning, it is optimal to conduct the test.  When you check tire pressure when the tires are warm, the pressures will be 4-6 psi higher than if the tires were cold.

  • Place the tire pressure gauge firmly on the tire valve cap. Ensure that there are no leaks of air. Stick-type gauges have a stick that pops out the bottom; the highest pressure displayed is the current tire pressure with a digital or dial gauge.
  • Remeasure twice more after removing the tire gauge.
  • Place the air pump hose over the valve of the tire if the pressure is low. A highly pressurized hose at a station should only be used for 5 seconds before stopping. Low-pressure personal air pumps can stay on longer, especially if the tire is very low. Leaving the pump alone could cause the tire to overinflate and become damaged.
  • Check the pressure again. Pressure can be released from an overinflated tire by pressing the tire valve.
  • Inflate your tire to the correct level and replace the valve cap.
  • All other tires, including the spare, should be repeated the same way.

Guide to Setting the Right Tire Pressure

  • Your car will have a tire pressure monitoring system regardless of the Lincoln car model you own. Here is a step-by-step guide to setting your tire pressure.
  • Ensure that Monitoring Mode is selected. It is possible to switch between temperature and pressure monitoring using the right and left buttons.
  • Hold down the center button for five seconds until a beep is heard. Baseline Pressure Mode will be activated once this is completed.
  • In this mode, you can move between tires by pressing the center button. Pressing the right button will raise the pressure, and pressing the left button will lower it.
  • You can set the pressure of each tire by pressing the left, right, and center buttons.
  • Hold the center button for five seconds to ensure that all tires are at the correct pressure levels.
  • The monitoring mode should now be switched back on.

If you don't know the process of setting tire pressure levels, and the right levels of pressure, take your car to the nearest service center and let them handle it for you.
